Presentation of the region

Two ethnic groups make up the majority of the population. The Mossi people are sedentary farmers, while the Fulani are nomadic herders. The primary economic activity of the farmers in the region is the cultivation of cereals. Millet, white and red sorghum, and corn are all grown here. Animals raised here include cattle, goat, and mutton.

The scarcity of water in this region causes many problems, as it does in other sudano-sahelien climatic zones. This scarcity affects both agriculture and the daily lives of the population. Rivers only flow during 5 months of the year and wells and other water access points are critically overtaxed. So, during the dry season, women often have to walk 3 to 5 kilometers to find water, which takes up far too much of their time and energy. The lack of material and financial support hinders the resolution of these problems and furthers the under-development of the region.
